Yoga and Nutrition Workshop, Chiswick, October 2017
I teamed up with the inspiring yoga instructor Dipa Trivedi to run a yoga/nutrition workshop just before half term. First up was an hour of yoga with a sequence focussing on the digestive system. We then sampled a selection of high protein/slow carb breakfast options such as egg and banana pancakes and super healthy seeded flapjacks as well as gut healthy kefir and berry shots! We had a great interactive discussion on the less obvious reasons it is so important to get breakfast right as well as talking about a number of recipe options and variations. To round things up we also ran through key nutrition principles for the rest of the day to build on a great start.
Gut Reaction Workshop with Blitz Fitness, Barnes, May 2017
Teaming up with Blitz Fitness Outdoor Training for the third time in discussing the amazing power of gut microbes and their influence on everything from digestion, immunity, mood, skin health and body composition. I also discussed ways of recognising if your gut needs support as well as outlining strategies to improve gut health and function. Another lively workshop and everyone sampled a selection of gut friendly foods and drinks; everything from kefir and pickled vegetables to tempeh and kombucha ! Thanks again to Lara and Karen from Blitz.
The Gastrointestinal Metabolome in Clinical Practice October 2016
Great lecture at the Royal Society of Medicine in London on how the balance of gut bacteria impacts on our health as well as our behaviour and brain function. I look forward to building these insights into treatment programmes to help my clients.
Healthy Breakfast Mornings
I often hold "healthy breakfast ideas" seminars, either at home or wherever requested by someone who wishes to host for friends/colleagues. Alongside sampling a number if different breakfast options, I talk about why it is so important to get breakfast right as not only does it impact energy levels throughout the day, it also plays a crucial role in hormone and mood balance as well as in regulating our weight.
There is always an enthusiastic response and lots of questions from the participants, particularly as there are so many new breakfast options regularly appearing on supermarket shelves. There is also often conflicting advice ( high/low protein/carb ?) on what we should be eating and I address this not just generally but also in relation to nutrition and morning exercise routines. Please do contact me if you would like to host a similar event.
